Beginning early this year, google made some changes to their search ranking,   in the hope of offering it’s search users better results, according to their official blog, this change impacts 11.8% organic search results, in another word, there are about 12% of google search results are considered low quality by google itself. Google started this change almost one year ago, no wonder I saw a few of my keywords’ ranks dropped like a rock, the good thing is that those keywords promoted by content rich links are not affected, and a few of them even gained a few positions, it’s obvious that linking campaign the old way is the thing of past, probably due to link spamming sites being tossed out by google.

Now what on earth is plain link building and how do people do it? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they put your links on websites which only exist for holding links, the content on those sites will never be updated, almost all of them are garbage, the name of link spamming sites is justified. New google algorithm most likely will punish these link spammers,  any links on them will be affected too. 

A few real world examples will help to explain what I said. When I got into online marketing long time ago, I needed to rank the keyword, http://www.mfrexpress.com/hydraulic-car-dolly-vehicle-positioning-jack-1500-lbs-p-809.html, at that time almost every body was doing plain linking campaign, almost all the sites I got link from had too many links, and the worst thing is that those sites are linking sites only and had no content, not even crap content. I would give credit where credit is due, this linking strategy worked, eventually the keyword could be found on first page, the party was over when google updated it’s algorithm. Here is another keyword, chain puller , we promoted this keyword with articles and blog posts, almost no plain links, now we have really good ranking for this keyword. Old and outdated linking campaign lost to content linking, what’s next? Actually this is all about content, so if you create great content, not only people will love to read your stuff, so do the search engines. How do you do it? As far as SEO concerned, creating quality content and article marketing is what we have to do to get great result. Bottom line is that you should create great content, publish and share with people, promote your business with the content, as long as you don’t stop doing this, you will win over customers and search engines.
