Lately google did something to their ranking algorithm,   the reason cited is that google wanted to provide more relevant results, google engineers published blog post which indicated there were 11.8% organic search results will be affected, in another word, google thinks about 12% of it’s search results are really bad and need to manipulated. The update was initiated more than a year ago, maybe that’s why some of my ranks dropped out of first 10 pages, but almost all the ranks promoted by articles and blog posts were not affected, and a few of them even gained a few positions, it’s obvious that linking campaign the old way is the thing of past, probably due to links crammed sites being downgraded by google.

Now what on earth is plain link building and how do people do it? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they add your links to those linking websites without context, these websites will only be updated when new links are being added, and most of them are useless, we call these sites link spamming sites. Now google algorithm probably will weed out these sites, any links on them will be affected too. 

Let’s check out a few examples. It was quite some time ago, I started promote the keyword, Transport Chain, of course with old way of link building, almost all the sites I got link from had too many links, worst yet, those sites had no content at all. I would give credit where credit is due, this linking strategy worked, finally the rank improved a lot,   the honeymoon lasted until google changed it’s mind. Now let’s look at another keyword, chain puller , we promoted this keyword with articles and blog posts, almost no plain links, now we have really good ranking for this keyword. Now contextual links win the battle, then what? Actually this is all about content, so if you create great content, not only people will love to read your stuff, so do the search engines. How do you do it? Writing articles and building blogs, such as this interesting blog, kaiya eve , in the beginning I just post to it casually, lately I added nice stuff left and right, you probably think this site won’t rank a all, in actuality my site is ranking high for some nice search phrases. As we can see, article marketing with great content is the way to go. If you can build a group of your own blogs, something like Chain Binders, then it will be easier to do article marketing.

Bottom line is that you should create great content, share the content with people, in the mean time advertise your business with your content, this strategy will prevail in short or long term. Whatever you do, you will need persistence and patience, long term strategy is required to improve anything of significance, i.e., selling online or improve your search rankings, now all we need to do is to share our love for creating and sharing nice content and not to worry about the search results all the time.
