Short while ago google had changed their ranking algorithm, in the name of providing more relevant search results for it’s users, according to their official blog, this change impacts 11.8% organic search results, put it this way, there are about 12% of google search results are considered low quality by google itself. They planned and started the update about one year ago, maybe that’s why some of my ranks dropped out of first 10 pages, on the other hand almost all keywords promoted by contextual links are not affected, a few of these keywords ranked better than ever, it’s almost a sure thing that plain link building loses all it’s attraction, at least in the eye of google.
What is old way of link building any way? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they put your links on websites which only exist for holding links, the content on those sites will never be updated, and most of them are useless, the name of link spamming sites is justified. Now google algorithm probably will weed out these sites, all the links on those websites will have the same fate.
Maybe a few examples will make it clear. It was quite some time ago, I started promote the keyword, Screw Pin Shackle, of course with old way of link building, lately I figured that every site in the campaign had way too many links, and the worst thing is that those sites are linking sites only and had no content, not even crap content. In the beginning, the ranking of the keyword in question rise pretty fast, finally the rank improved a lot, the party was over when google updated it’s algorithm. Here is another keyword, chain pullers, most back links for this keyword are from articles and posts, almost no plain links, you can imagine how this keyword ranks. Old and outdated linking campaign lost to content linking, what’s next? In fact the only thing matters here is content, so if you create great content, your rank will improve over time, since search engines are another kind of readers. As we can see, quality article marketing is much better than plain link building. At the end of day all you have to do is to create attractive content, publish and share with people, in the mean time advertise your business with your content, as long as you don’t stop doing this, you will win over customers and search engines.
